Over the years, India has steadily adopted a pattern of unilateral and aggressive actions in the region—actions that not only violate international norms but also challenge Pakistan’s patience and diplomatic goodwill. Whether it was the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A, which revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, or the 2016 so-called “surgical strikes” inside Pakistani territory, India has shown a disturbing trend of disregarding established diplomatic channels and international law.

The latest provocation, involving transgressions across internationally recognized borders, signals a new level of recklessness. These are not isolated incidents—they represent a clear pattern of escalation, strategic posturing, and deliberate provocation, all under the guise of internal or defensive measures.

In contrast, Pakistan has consistently pursued peaceful and lawful means to address these provocations. Through platforms like the United Nations, including repeated submissions to the UN Security Council, and appeals to the UN Human Rights Council regarding the situation in Indian-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan has remained committed to diplomacy. After the unilateral abrogation of Kashmir’s special status in 2019, Pakistan presented a strong case at the UN General Assembly, exposing India’s illegal occupation and systemic human rights violations.

Yet, every time Pakistan opts for restraint, India interprets it as weakness. It continues its aggressive pursuits—building fences, establishing illegal settlements in disputed territories, and most recently, attempting to change ground realities through military transgressions. These actions are not just violations of the UN Charter, but also direct threats to regional peace and security.

There is a growing belief in the Pakistani public and strategic circles that India is leveraging its economic weight and international partnerships to pressurize and isolate Pakistan. India may believe that a weakened Pakistani economy limits its ability to respond with strength, thereby giving India an open field to pursue its strategic ambitions unchecked.

But this is a dangerous miscalculation.

Pakistan is a nuclear-armed state with a robust military and an alert, resilient nation. While Pakistan continues to value peace and cooperation, there comes a point where silence and diplomacy can no longer protect sovereignty. If provocations persist, Pakistan may be compelled to respond with limited but forceful retaliation—not out of choice, but out of necessity.

The international community, particularly the UN, UNSC permanent members, and regional powers, must wake up to this looming crisis. This is not Syria, Iraq, or Lebanon—this is Pakistan, a country with real strategic depth and powerful deterrence. Continued silence by global powers may soon translate into complicity.

It is time for the international community to give India a “shut-up call”—to hold it accountable, curb its reckless ambitions, and press it toward diplomacy rather than destruction. Otherwise, the repercussions of inaction may spill beyond borders and engulf the entire region in a conflict far more dangerous than the world can afford.
